I am bad at this

I have not blogged in an incredibly long time. There's just so much to do, and I forget about it, and I feel bad!

Last week, I had the flu. It was horrible. I thought that I was going to die, alone in my dorm room. Who knew that being sick at college could be so horrible?!

Vegetables.

I'm sorry I haven't written in a long time. I'm a failure as a blogger. I try my best, but the life of a college student is CRAZY!

So, you might be wondering why I'm talking about vegetables today. Here's my question: Were Adam and Eve vegetarians?

This question was forming as I was reading Isaiah 11:6-9. "the wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat..." I am assuming here that he is talking about the second coming of Christ--when he reigns over the earth. But was it like that before sin entered the world?

In Genesis 1:29, it says, "Then God said, 'I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earty and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.'" He never says anything about the animals. Later on, in Genesis 9, God is speaking to Noah and says, "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything."

Is it possible that no one ate meat until after the flood? Did God, perhaps need to cleanse all the animals to make them edible?

My roommate disagrees with my theories, and I see her points. She says that the Bible specifically mentions how Abel is a shepherd. And why would there be sheperds if there weren't sheep, meant for eating? (Although the sheep could be used for other things, like milk, wool, and sacrifices.) Also, aren't our bodies made to eat meat? Why would it be this way unless God specifically made us to eat meat--even before the fall?

I don't know, it's a very interesting topic. What do you think?

Is Abortion Ever Justified?

Okay, well, I don't know if you knew this or not, but I actually have 2 blogs. I was trying to decide whether to get a blog on Blogger or on Wordpress, so I got this one, and on Wordpress I have a blog describing my pro-life views. I am finding that A LOT of time is needed to have 2 blogs, so I am (horribly) just copying-and-pasting my last blog entry...

I know that many people struggle with deciding whether or not abortion is right when the mother is in risk. All of the ‘hard data’ that I am about to share with you was recieved at http://abort73.com/index.php?/end_abortion/is_abortion_ever_justified, which is a pro-life website (for your consideration).

Before saying anything else, I want to give you some basics. It is VERY RARE that abortion can be used as to save the life of the mother. Former Surgeon General Everett Koop stated in the New York Times in 1996 that because of the advances in modern medicine, “partial-birth abortions are not needed to save the life of the mother.” Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Alan Guttmacher said that today it is possible for “almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save, life.”

When the life of the mother is threatened by pregnancy, everything should be done to protect the life of the mother AND her child. A child is not something that should be thrown away. During the last half of the pregnancy, the pregnancy can be ended by inducing labor and using neonatal care to save the life of the child (outside of the womb).

Now, according to the most recent report from the Centers for Disease Control, the oveall, pregnancy-related mortality rate in the US is .000118%. For every pregnancy-related death, there are 8,475 successful, live births. Therefore, one has to ask oneself, “Is a .000118% risk to the life of the mother enough to MORALLY JUSTIFY abortion?”

That is something to consider.

Food Issues

I feel like I have a health problem. Every time I leave school and eat real food, my stomach rebels. A few days later, I get used to it, then go back to school, and have MORE stomach problems.

This makes me angry. I realize that Bon Apetit (our school's food supplier) probably uses fake food, which my body gets used to. The same thing happened to me when I got back from El Salvador, although it lasted for almost a month before they put me on the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast).

But I feel like this shouldn't be happening. Perhaps I should protest against GCC's food?

Has this ever happened to you?

Overpopulation

Well, my last few entries have been very lighthearted, talking about bathrooms and snow boots. In this post, I am going to talk about something that I have heard a lot abot, overpopulation.

The first time I'd really even thought about overpopulation was last weekend. I attended the Students for Life of America Conference in DC, and they had an interesting view. They stated that the Pro-Choice movement had invented the myth of overpopulation as a way to encourage mothers to have abortions. Now, having never heard that before, I was very skeptical.

Later, I was reading a book called America Alone, written by Mark Steyn. In it, he basically claims that Europeans need to have more kids, because Muslim nations are 'out-breeding' us. Unfortunately, Steyn never cites his sources, which always makes me a little skeptical.

Now, I do believe that some of his statistics are correct. While people used to have tons of kids, they are now waiting until later in life to do so, leading to fewer children. In doing so, there is going to be a lot more elderly people than younger people--which is a problem.

However, in going to Grove City, I have only seen the conservative part of this argument--and it is fair to say that "America Alone" is brainwashing me.

I don't know. What do you think?

Shoes...

I don't know if it's like this wherever you are, but the weather is TERRIBLE here. It rained this morning, then this afternoon all of the rain froze on the sidewalks, and it started snowing. It's pretty bad.

My friends and I were discussing footwear this morning. For some reason, it takes me a good three weeks to break in a pair of shoes. It's crazy. Clogs are the worst, because they are just so easy to walk out of.

Well, because of this discussion, I started noticing people's footwear today. And I noticed one thing: Rain Boots.

Honestly? Rain boots?! Those things have no insulation, wouldn't your feet be freezing? And yes, some of the patterns and such are cute, but most of them are simply eyesores. But there is a huge FAD when it comes to rain boots.

Personally, I'm not a fan. If it's snowing--wear snow boots.

Gross or not?

Today I am choosing to blog about something that is very close to my heart. Community Bathrooms. How do I feel about them? Why do I feel that way?

Well, here are the good things about community bathrooms: You don't have to clean them, you don't have to buy toilet paper, and you get to laugh at your friends' hair at 8 a.m.

But the problem, is they smell. They smell so bad. Late in the day, when the trash hasn't been taken out of the stalls in a while, the smell is overpowering. I gag when I go in the bathroom.

And the hair! There is hair everywhere, of all different colors. It's in the sinks, in the showers, on the floors! And sometimes, you crawl out of bed at 7, simply to have to wait in line to take a shower! It's outrageous.

But honestly, I've had some good times in that bathroom. During finals, we had dance parties in there. I am currently planning a giant game of telephone for the bathroom. We wouldn't be able to do things like that unless we had a community bathroom.

So is it worth it? I haven't quite decided yet.

Welcome!

Well, hello, everyone!

If I know you, which I hope I do, welcome to my blog. I have a couple of other blogs, which I have been horrible at updating. The first one is called "Made New," and focuses on my faith. The second is called "Life Advocate," which focuses on my pro-life views--and I just started that one not long ago. If you look on the sidebar, you will see links to these blogs.

Why did I want to get a blog? That's a good question, and one I cannot truly answer. I suppose I wanted to get my feelings out by writing about them. I have discovered that I am truly passionate about a lot of issues, and I want others to know WHY I am passionate about them. Why do I go on missions? Why do I love Christ? Why should everyone go to Grove City College? Why should everyone watch my favorite movie? Things like that, that I would normally forget to talk about.

So, dear reader, I will begin my blogging career by asking what you want to hear about. What do you want to know my opinion on? What do you want me to write about during class...I mean, after class...oh boy.
