Okay, well, I don't know if you knew this or not, but I actually have 2 blogs. I was trying to decide whether to get a blog on Blogger or on Wordpress, so I got this one, and on Wordpress I have a blog describing my pro-life views. I am finding that A LOT of time is needed to have 2 blogs, so I am (horribly) just copying-and-pasting my last blog entry...
I know that many people struggle with deciding whether or not abortion is right when the mother is in risk. All of the ‘hard data’ that I am about to share with you was recieved at http://abort73.com/index.php?/end_abortion/is_abortion_ever_justified, which is a pro-life website (for your consideration).
Before saying anything else, I want to give you some basics. It is VERY RARE that abortion can be used as to save the life of the mother. Former Surgeon General Everett Koop stated in the New York Times in 1996 that because of the advances in modern medicine, “partial-birth abortions are not needed to save the life of the mother.” Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Alan Guttmacher said that today it is possible for “almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save, life.”
When the life of the mother is threatened by pregnancy, everything should be done to protect the life of the mother AND her child. A child is not something that should be thrown away. During the last half of the pregnancy, the pregnancy can be ended by inducing labor and using neonatal care to save the life of the child (outside of the womb).
Now, according to the most recent report from the Centers for Disease Control, the oveall, pregnancy-related mortality rate in the US is .000118%. For every pregnancy-related death, there are 8,475 successful, live births. Therefore, one has to ask oneself, “Is a .000118% risk to the life of the mother enough to MORALLY JUSTIFY abortion?”
That is something to consider.
